Skyward
I sent a wish skyward
in the crisp morning air
and it took wing, feathers
wrapped around the beating
heart of hope and
as I watched it soar
on currents and drift along
with clouds, I told myself
be quiet
I must hold my tongue,
listen, wait
and watch the distant horizon
to see if one day, she returns to me.
